Reading room

The ensemble of chapter archive and library include a bright and spacious reading room with a research library. About 20,000 books and countless periodicals (on topics ranging from such things as art history, theology, archaeology and bibliography) are part of the collection. In the main focus is the history of Xanten and it’s vicinity.

The research library is solely a reference library. Loaning out books or periodicals is not possible.

Over half of the inventory of the research library can be researched online via the union catalogue of the diocese library in Münster.

The use of the reading room or the records and books is free of charge for all research-related work.

A fee will be charged for all use for personal reasons in which no public interest is associated – for example family research.
