The Chapter Library

For the Xanten Chapter Museum, communication is a top priority. The museum pulls out all the stops in order to build bridges from the Cathedral’s treasury and the sacral museum into today’s day and age.

In several roms of the museum, you will find modern media stations located next to historical showpieces with various informational offers. As a mobile companion, our visitors are provided with audio guides available in four languages. There are spcial audio guides for children. The audio guides build easily understandable links to provide a better understanding.

Well-trained tour guides offer general tours or special theme-based tours, such as "Manuscripts and printings", "Paraments" or "Goldsmiths' art". If requested, the tours can be combined with tours of the Xanten Cathedral. A special tour for children and young adults is available. Workshops for adults as well as a comprehensive museum education offer for children and young adults are gaining an increasing amount of interest.

Various publications – a selection catalogue, journals pertaining to the special exhibitions, various flyers as well as the regularly published Chapter Journal – provide lots of insights into the world of the Chapter Museum and in its collections and activities. An electronic newsletter keeps friends and supporters of the museum up to date
