The museum is located in the historical buildings of the former chapter of St. Victor, that's history dates back to the middle of the 8th century.

Since its opening in 2010, more than 50,000 visitors have passed through the gates of the Chapter Museum and thoroughly enjoyed the amazing presentation of valuable exhibits. Exciting thematic tours are also offered to the visitors, especially for groups.

Attached to the museum are a historical library and a comprehensive archive about the history of the Rhineland.

The Xanten Chapter Museum is sponsored by the Roman Catholic Parish St. Victor Xanten.
